ROOTS

"The cylindrical plant organ that does not bear buds or leaves, tends to grow towards gravity and away from the light is called root.”

Roots are of Two Major Types on the basis of Origin or Development:

→ Tap Roots
→ Adventitious Roots
 Tap Roots
The root developed from the radicle of embryo and become thicker than its branches is known as Tap Root. e.g, Wheat, Carrot, Radish etc.

Adventitious Roots
The root developed from stem or leaves is called adventitious roots.e.g  Rose, Sugar Cane etc.

Types of Tap Root

i- Fibrous Root 
ii- Tuberous Root 

Fibrous Root 

If Primary root is not much thicker than Secondary root, then it is Fibrous root.

Tuberous Root

Tap root become thick or swollen due to reserve food material are 
known as tuberous tap roots.
